Grant Whibley
Grant's paintings reflect a respect for nature and the spirit that birds embody in and for New Zealand.
Grant Whibley was born in Tokoroa and raised in Whakatane.
For a number of years Grant has concentrated on paintings birds.
These paintings are not merely descriptions of birds but complex
investigations and explorations of the birds themselves, the
environment, humankind and the artist himself. He says of his work
that central to his idea is to convey "the bird, the land and its
people". Grant won the Premier Award in the Norsewear Art Awards in
2003; he was the Overall Winner of the Molly Morperth Canaday
Awards 2004 and won the Emerging Artist Award at the James Wallace
Awards in 2002.
