The
exhibition Site Rescene at the Suter Art Gallery,
Nelson curated by Director Julie Catchpole features Whitespace
artists Nic Moon and David Ryan and invited regional artists
to respond to the rarely seen collection of nineteenth century
landscape painter John Gully.
Artists
selected a painting, a detail, specific sites or scenes as
inspiration for their contemporary interpretation of Gullys
work. Nic Moon was represented by a selection of large scale
images of indigenous flies painted in cow dung recently seen at her
Whitespace exhibition South, and David Ryan
worked from a 1883 Gully painting called Mountain
Heights to create a 6 metre long painted book.
